Mick’s Nut Shop

By Luke O'Kelly

If you were to consider the Suburbs in Brisbane a family, then West End would be the ‘Cool but Eccentric Aunty’. With many new developments emerging in and around the Brisbane CBD, West End has not aged one bit. Instead, the suburb has found a balance between a plethora of eclectic buildings and shop fronts, intertwined with modern architecture.

Mick’s Nuts on Vulture Street stands as the mecca of places to visit whilst in West End. Perhaps it is the nostalgia it strikes for many. If you ask someone local in the area, they will tell you Mick’s Nuts was around ages ago… in the 70s. This was when the area was not so trendy, yet the store front remains the same. Nostalgia aside, I think for most it is the big industrial-esque sized barrels full of nuts and local produce that leave a lasting impression and memory, not mention the lovely women who work there, who always welcome you as if you are an old friend.

If you get a chance, go in and have a chat to the ladies in the store and try out some of their produce.

Mick’s Nuts Address: 31 Hardgrave Rd, West End QLD 4101
